Oh my… I wonder if China Miéville ever saw this. There’s a sequence in his children’s book, Un Lun Dun, where the main character climbs up the book shelf in her library to get back into the book’s alternate world.

Maybe. I think it’s about how libraries are often like jungles and one needs to have some safari experience to deal with them.
